“Growing Inward” | Cleveland Summer Pipeline Program

In July of 2022, Growing Inward was created for the 2022 Cleveland Summer Pipeline Program hosted at East Technical High School for student interns ages 14-17 to prepare themselves for life after graduation.

This year’s student interns were led by Program Manager, Mary Nazimiec, an amazing educator and local artist in the Cleveland area. The Cleveland Summer Pipeline Public Safety Program is a summer opportunity was created by Angela Thi Bennett in 2014 through Youth Opportunities Unlimited (Y.O.U.) to encourage youth to explore careers in public safety while providing a safe space for students during the summer. Kimberly participated as a program assistant from 2015 - 2021. This year’s theme was “Growth is the Outcome.”

Session One: Introduction + “Nice to Meet You” Worksheet (50 min)
Session Two: Helping Others & Ourselves (1 hr and 15 min)
Session Three: You & Your Mental Health (1 hr and 15 min)
Session Four:
Self-Care & Empathy and Me (1 hr and 15 min)

Personal Note: It was such an honor to be able to participate in the summer program this year as an instructor. I drove every Thursday from Pittsburgh to Cleveland over 4 weeks and I never had any complaints because this is what I love to do. I connected with students on a personal level and found success in even the quiet ones.
